Maybank Foundation, the CR arm of the Maybank Group launched its final art exhibition for the year entitled ‘PURE Painting: An Exposition of Non-Figurative Art’ at Balai Seni Maybank in Kuala Lumpur.

The exhibition features works from 25 local artists specialising in abstract art offering refreshing insights on expressions of their individuality depicted through the medium of art.

Their artistic approaches include both geometric and lyrical forms of abstraction and their subject matters vary from the cognitive to the emotive and the spiritual.
The exhibition which runs until 30 November 2018 showcases 50 abstract artwork which were created using oil and acrylic to industrial paint and displayed on canvases.

An initiative by Maybank Foundation under its Balai Seni Art Series, the event is aimed at supporting the Group’s ongoing social mission to sustain and acknowledge the distinctive and creative efforts of local abstract artists as well as celebrating the evolution of arts in Malaysia.

The event was officially launched by Dato’ V. Danapalan, member of the Board of Trustees of Maybank Foundation and Shahril Azuar Jimin, CEO of Maybank Foundation.

Shahril said that the concept of the exhibition breaks away from the norms of figurative art, giving art enthusiasts a fresh outlook on the meaning of abstract art.

“Today’s exhibition challenges the minds of art lovers, allowing them to free their thoughts and assign their own meaning to the art pieces. For the first time ever, we showcase an exhibition fully dedicated to abstract art aimed at educating and inculcating an appreciation among enthusiasts of this unique art form.”

“This exhibition is also a great avenue to showcase the creative abilities of our aspiring local abstract artists giving them a positive push in their careers and at the same time expanding the portfolio of the Malaysian non-figurative art scene,” said Shahril.

All of the abstract artworks created by the local artists are up for sale at the exhibition and the price varies from RM300 to RM40,000. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sales of artwork will be channelled to various charitable organisations supported by Maybank Foundation.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 11am to 4pm (Saturday) until 30 November 2018. Admission to Balai Seni Maybank is free.
Balai Seni Maybank has been actively hosting Malaysian and international artists since its establishment in the 1980’s.
