Groundbreaking Ceremony of Maybank Training & Learning Center in Xavier EcoVille

On 16 December 2011, the Philippines was struck by Super typhoon Sendong and it severely impacted the lives of 500 families living in the coastal communities of Mindanao Island. Maybank Philippines and Xavier University played a major role in providing emergency relief assistance to the affected communities. They were relocated to a resettlement village in Barangay Lumbia. Today, the resettlement area is called Xavier Ecoville, Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro city.

On 31 March 2016, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Xavier EcoVille to construct the first Maybank Training and Learning Centre (TLC). The ceremony was launched by the mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, Mayor Oscar Moreno and witnessed by President and CEO of Maybank Philippines Inc., Sir Herminio Famatigan Jr., and CEO of Maybank Foundation, Encik Shahril Azuar Jimin.

The Maybank TLC is a 3-storey skills training center with technical facilities to enhance the livelihood skills of the Xavier Ecoville community and its neighboring towns. Training include Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) accredited programmes and specially designed modules.

The Maybank TLC project’s objectives are to:

• Provide access to alternative education and skills certification to the community.

• Increase employment opportunities for graduates.

• Strengthen the Maybank Xavier Ecoville Manpower Association.

• Become one of the leading training facilities in Cagayan de Oro city

The acquired skills and certification obtained from the training will give the trainees better job opportunities and a stable income for them to improve their livelihoods. It is hoped that with the construction of Maybank TLC it will promote Maybank’s good brand image through empowering the youth, creating job opportunities to the local communities as well as enhancing capacity building for the communities that we have a presence in.
